International students - why are we doing this?

Far from your loved ones. Pay on wall street not any better than banking in Asia (in fact lower once you consider the higher taxes in the US) either.

Sorry I am just pissed, angry, disappointed and sad. Being in the USA costs me my relationship.

 

Always wanted to work on wall street. As perverted as it might sound, for me at least it will be (hopefully) a symbol that I've arrived.

Work a couple years, get your MBA then move back home!

 

Sorry to hear that. You're doing it because once you get in, you become very mobile towards kick-ass jobs going forward. I got to know alot of international students this past year, and my father was one a couple decades back. I know it sucks, but keep plugging away. And don't worry about your girlfriend. There are plenty more where that came from. Yeah, de-sensitizing relationships is cool!

I still have no idea why international students go through all the hassles of working in NY especially with visas being so hard to get these days. You make more money in Asia because of lower taxes and you are closer to home! Seriously this crap about exit opps is hilarious because so many people join hedge funds and private equity from here. All the big funds have offices in Asia that you can work for.
