Interning at international office -> FT in domestic?
Is it possible to do an M/B/B summer internship in an international office and then do FT in a domestic office, like NYC for example? Notwithstanding exit options, if the ultimate goal is to land an FT at an M/B/B (NYC); would it be better to try and land an MBB internship the summer before or some sort of banking SA experience (BB)?
Also, how difficult would it be for a student coming from a target, fluent in the language of said international office to land a summer internship? Many thanks.
If you know that you want to do MBB FT, then why take the risk of going through FT interviews when you're good enough to get an SA offer, given that MBB SA offers are very tough to get? If you're sort on the fence, then the banking SA makes sense, but if you're not, then I think it's a no-brainer.
Depending upon the location, it's not difficult to get an internship at a foreign office coming from a target. Obviously, Western Europe is more competitive than, say, Asia or Latin America.
Thanks for the input. Do you think it's possible to go from an international SA to a US-based FT? Also, is it true that the NYC doesn't have offer an SA program?
It's possible, but not common. I believe that Bain has a NYC SA program. Could be wrong though. McK doesn't, but NJ is an option--you can live in NYC and commute there. No clue about BCG.
I know someone from a non-target who interned at McKinsey Germany and converted that to a full time US offer. He ended up turning it down, but it is definitely possible.
Does landing an SA gig guarantee you a FT offer?
Guarantee is a strong word, but MBB has a high SA offer rate, mainly due to the quality of the people who receive SA offers. It's pretty simple. If you do well as an SA, you'll get an offer to return FT.
