Internship Advice Junior Summer

Need help deciding between two offers for a summer internship going into my senior year.
The first is with a brokerage firm (HFF, Eastdil, CBRE) in a primary market that isn't NYC (LA,CHI,DC).
The second is with huge developer in the area (Hines, Tishman, JBG Smith, Vornado) doing asset management.
Really love the fact that brokerage gets you out of the office but thats a long way down the road.
I know brokerage would be long hours but for a few years that's fine with me.
Can someone compare comp and exit opps?

Depends on what you want to end up doing...brokerage can potentially be very lucrative but if you are looking to end up doing basically anything on the buy side (or go to a top b school) your exit opps will likely be better from the large developer. Kind of splitting hairs though both are great internships. Also your hours will be long either way.

Like it was already alluded to you really can't go wrong with either. If there is any chance you see yourself potentially doing development, or asset management then take the asset management internship.

If you are dead set on being a broker than take the brokerage internship.

Me personally I would take the asset management internship, as the above shops are all great and it would be a great place to start your career. Your network will be pretty decent in a few years and if you decide you want to go to brokerage down the line you will know all of the major players.

If you search around there's a comp thread with a few asset management, brokerage postings on there. Dependent upon market but that thread will give you a good idea.

Exit ops: Asset management: (not as familiar here) At a big shop like the above it shouldn't be terribly hard to move internally to development. I think REIT, and PERE are all within reach too.

Brokerage:Depends where you start and how hard you hustle. If you start off as a broker and don't do well that's a much harder sell when trying to land a new job. I would try to start off as a financial analyst on a broker team and see how you like it. From there you can network, and either potentially move up on the brokerage team or hustle your way in to asset management, development, or PERE.

Either way you can't go wrong.
