Mutual Fund internship

What is your take on a summer internship working at a non-ny, 50bn mutual fund in terms of work experience quality? It is a value fund, and the role would be as an "equity analyst." When applying for full-time after undergrad, how would investment banks or trading firms view this experience? How about PE firms or HF's? Just trying to gauge the perceived strength of this experience and its value in terms of developed skill set. Thanks in advance.

this would be a good role for the buyside and other HF's and other asset managers

equity implies you will be learning about investing/markets/how companies operate

this isn't useful for PE or fixed income because you wouldn't be exposed to that kind of financial analysis

Thanks for the response. So I assume that if I want to stay in AM then the equity analyst role will be good. If I want to eventually transition to a HF would it be better to try and get a fixed income analyst position within the same firm? To my understanding, HF's seem more fixed income-focused than MF's so I would think that an internship dealing with FI may be better experience for that. Is there any truth to this or am I completely off base? Also what is the likelihood of being able to land a full time gig at a HF straight out of undergrad with this MF experience?

Sorry, but what do you mean by group, the category of the equity fund? If so, let's say the category is large blend.

If that wasn't what you meant, could you tell me in general, what an intern would do at an equity fund?
