Internship at BB IBD in Africa -- International Student

Hey WSO! I landed an internship at a BB in my country, it was quite hard to do so because I'm only a junior in high school. I didn't get it through personal connections, I cold emailed almost everyone in IB here.
Now to my question; how beneficial is this for me? Would schools think I got it through personal connections and write it off or would it make me stand out?

I don't want to come off as someone who is just trying to pad their resume because I'm genuinely interested in finance and IB.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That's actually very impressive, most people will ask how you got it and that's your chance to show off how hard you worked for it.

I doubt you'll be doing any intense work because of your age, probably more of a shadow program, so make sure you're straightforward about your responsibilities on your resume later on. But overall a net benefit - try to work there senior year of HS as well, so your internship isn't from four years ago when you're applying.

Thanks for replying. I have the option to do some research with a finance professor at the best business school here next year on African middle markets and publish some research of my own. I could always go back to the BB the summer after I graduate HS. I have two options, BB and research or BB and BB next year before I start submitting college apps. Which one do you think I should do?

Thanks in advance!

Do you have to decide now? See if you like the BB and if they'd give you additional work the next summer, but the other option is great too, just see which you prefer. Continue either through freshman/sophomore year and you'd be at the top of the list for an interview just because no one has that experience so young. Congrats, sounds like you've set yourself up really well.

Bump. Any other opinions? Still worried about this. I will spend most of my summer there and I won't have time to do anything else. I'm just worried that I will spend so much time doing something that admission officers will just write off and assume that I got it through personal connections.

Thanks in advance!
