you'll have to network...email/phone/coffee chat...follow the guide on WSO...search for it
you probably won't get anywhere with regular online applications
Not really. I went the JUCO route and seeing JUCO on a resume is an easy way for the ppl sorting through resumes for any type of relevant finance internship to take you out of the pile. Either take some summer classes that will transfer to your 4-year, get whatever job you can find that pays the best, regardless of what it is, or both. Networking now may pay dividends later, but it's extremely unlikely that it'll land you an internship in the short-term.
What is JUCO?
Junior college, other name for community colleges.
I would agree with BBA18. Stay patient, as the interviews you are looking for may be a year or two (if not more) away. Do well at community college and transfer to the best University you can already having a strong understanding of finance and whatever specific industry you want to get into. Once there, ask around, find out how recruiting works at your school, stay in touch with the right people, and then be ready when the opportunity arises. I went the JUCO route as well, and your chances are much better waiting until after you've transferred to apply for top finance jobs. In the meantime, it really can't hurt to try to find local internships and experiences to boost your resume for a couple years down the road. Good luck.
Doing well at CC should be your top priority so that you have an outstanding GPA & can transfer to the best possible college.
If you find that possible and with ample time to spare, I'd imagine you could find a local, smaller PWM that might be willing to have you do some part-time work.
Are you transferring as a Junior? I think it would be extremely helpful to get some kind of internship during CC to develop a network but also have something on your resume with how accelerated recruiting is.
For example, rising juniors (class of 2021) are already (or have been) interviewing for next Summer's SA positions so I think it would definitely help to get some kind of internship during CC. The classes there are easy, not very time consuming, and you can potentially develop a network going into recruiting when you transfer. Making a list of nearby boutiques or small local banks, and reaching out for informational interviews or coffee chats could go a long way.
Transferring in as a Sophomore to a top school is probably better than the above though, to be honest.
Just my .02, take with a grain of salt.
I landed a banking internship between my sophomore/junior year while at a CC, so the summer before starting at the school I transferred to. PM me if you want to chat more.
Hey is it cool if I PM you about that banking internship?
sure thing
Did an M&A gig while at community college prior to transferring to an Ivy League school; about to start as a 1st year at an EB - PM me, would be happy to hop on the phone
hey PM me. Can't do it myself because of daily PM limit.
