Internship or graduate role? (UK)

Hi all,

Any help with my question would be much appreciated:

Essentially the question is whether to apply for internship or graduate roles -

Background

I have a BSc in Economics, first class (first, 2:1, 2:2 etc. UK grading) from a top 10 Uni - got highest mark in derivatives module in cohort.

Worked for a year at a European bank in ETF Sales (Asset management) learnt quite a lot (Bloomberg BDP/H and a little VBA).

Now going to LSE to do MSc in Finance (Got a scholarship)

Before I left I spoke to someone in grad recruitment for the Investment bank, who said they almost exclusively hire from internship programme. So there are not really any graduate roles. I don't know if this is the case with all banks.

I think I would like to work in Fx/Rates structuring/trading (interested in derivatives - FI/FX), however I am also concerned I might not have the quant skills - undergrad degree was fairly quant: mv calculus, Linear algebra, I know a little about stochastic calculus. Is everyone in structuring a maths/physics grad?

So given this - should I apply for internships or graduate roles? Obviously with internship roles, there is the danger of not getting a job at the end of it and finishing study. I could apply for some graduate programmes and other internships.

Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to give the full picture.

Cheers,

emderman
