Interview for Tech Focused SM HF (L/S and Private Markets)

Hi everyone,

I have an interview coming up with a single manager fund that does both public and private investing under one team and is hiring a new grad. I did not do banking last summer, my experience is more tech centric. I follow tech newsletters/substacks and can talk about the industry qualitatively quite well. However, I am trying to prepare for the more technical portion of the interview and wanted some help.

Can someone please help me understand what would most likely be asked in these interviews? I assume I will have to say have 3 sectors I am bullish on, 3 sectors I am bearish on. Some names in each. That should hopefully cover the private side.

On the public side, I would want 1 long pitch and 1 short pitch. However, I am less clear about what this actually entails from a technical perspective. Should I build out a DCF and be ready to explain it? Understand the multiples of its competitors? I am really at a loss for this part?

Also, on the private side, would it be worthwhile to learn about dilution for each successive fundraising round.

I am well versed on many of these things high level and qualitatively but have very little experience actually digging into the fundamental model building and analysis which is where I am concerned.

I would really appreciate any help! Hopefully this can also be useful for people in the future recruiting for HFs as it seems to have become more common out of undergrad.
