Interview in 5 hours
Final round interview in approximately 5 hours (with 1 hour needed to get down there). How do I prepare?
What I think I should know:
1. Technicals - valuation, merger models, accounting, I've spent a lot of time here
2. Walk through resume
3. Why the firm
4. Why the location
5. Why IB
6. Recent deals done by the firm in that location
7. Example of leadership
Anything else I'm missing that I should be prepared for?
Thanks in advance!
What i have noticed is the the only two questions i get asked are fit. So "walk me through you resume"/"tell me about yourself" and "why banking".
The this may be because i am an econ and not a finance major but i was never asked a question that wasnt at a very basic level.
I believe the key is to express that you are very passionate about the role, can provide a little evidence that you are passionate, and know the few basic technicals, but again passion is the key word. And besides that not being a weirdo probably helps some
0.75 -- why you really want to do banking, can work 100+ hours a week, and want to work specifically at that firm more than anyone else (to the extent that this is addressable without sounding creepy)
I sent you the BIWS interview questions. There's about 400 in there, so it should cover everything.
I come from a non-finance school. But from the internship I did in investment banking and from just the sheer number of hours I've put into learning corporate finance/accounting, I would say I am pretty versed in (at least from an academic perspective) technicals.
Is there a way for me to convey this to them? a way to invite them to ask me more in depth technical questions (e.g. do a merger model on paper, tax treatment during mergers, stock/asset sales) so they know I can do more than just walk them through DCFs?
If this is not necessary, that's fine too. Most of this preparation is done for potential boutique interviews in the future.
In all honesty, they likely won't care if you know that stuff in-depth. From my experience, they just want to see if you know the basics. Beyond that, it's all the airport test.
You may be able to work it in some, but you also risk coming off as a "know-it-all" and they generally want to see someone who is humble and willing to learn.
You have a final round interview on a Saturday? Is this for SA?
Anyway, I think you're good. Might wanna also look at comps in technicals, and don't forget to brush up on fit questions. Also maybe read the WSJ to get a good read of stories in the news, as well as having some investment ideas, but I didn't get that a whole lot during SA recruiting.
