Interview prep for strategy internship with global media/broadcasting company
Hi guys, first post here. I am a 2nd year student currently attending a British university, and I was advanced to the last stage of recruitment with a global broadcasting company (mkt cap ~ $15bn), for the position of summer intern in their strategy department (trend analysis, strategy analysis, strategy formulation, acquisitions, divestments etc...)
My question is whether it would be OK to ask a question which relies on information that I found on one of my interviewers' LinkedIn page, as I don't want to come across as a stalker. The question would be along these lines "I was actually reading your LinkedIn page and noticed that you submitted a market analysis on X country. Are there any countries which you are currently particularly excited about?"
The position requires me to regularly meet with the CFO and COO, so I cannot give off suspicious vibes about my character. I understand that it might sound over-precautionary, but as of now I am currently competing against only 1 person so I cannot afford shooting myself in the foot...
I personally think its OK to ask since they are drilling into you very deep (boom, phrasing: pun a little intended) so doing a Linked In search of your interviewer is certainly acceptable. I am not just saying this, I have done that before with success. I suppose some people come across creepy but if you approach it as "i was doing some research to better understand the company, the team and culture and how I would fit in and I came across x study you did which actually aligns very nicely with my interests .... etc etc etc" no need to mention where just focus on content. The other way you can do it is to just ask the second part of your question (Are there any countries which you are currently particularly excited about?) without the "found the study" qualifier. Hope that helps dude. Good luck and take no bollocks.
Thanks that actually answered my question perfectly, and I will certainly make sure to come in shielded against possible bullocks.
