Interview Question - Over prepping for cases
Say I have an interview in about a month with an MBB for a foreign office (analyst). How likely is it that I will be asked if I am interviewing with other consulting firms, which ones, how far along in the process, etc.? If so, will a "No" hurt me? Will 2nd tier interviews hurt? Is it a better use of my time to over-prep for the cases vs applying to other firms for the sake of having a good answer to that question?
By over-prepping for the cases, I mean taking a 3 week vacation and studying for them 80hrs/week leading up to the interview.
Speaking of which, does anyone want to practice case interviews in the Boston area or over the phone?
Is it common to have a 2-day interview scheduled? I have not seen such a monster mentioned on here, any idea what this might mean. if anything?
One more thing - can someone please explicitly define the recruiting cycle for consulting firms at the analyst level?
Thanks in advance!
more likely day 1 as group interview or activity to gauge your social awkwardness and fit/dinner day 2 - case interviews with partners and consultants and 1 fit interview with HR
They will probably ask you where else you are interviewing. It's good to mention a few.. you can be vague at first and see if they probe if you are onto second rounds. they just want corroboration that other firms are into you as well, hence making them feel good about shortlisting you.
240 hours is a bit overkill for prep.... you'll see what I mean once you get about 80 mocks under your belt.
good luck!
Typical cycle is like this: On campus interview (1st round) On site interview (final round, 2 days) -day 1: dinner as mentioned above just to get to know you -day 2: full day of interviews
You can mention a few of the places you're interviewing at, shows that you were able to get other interviews. Sometimes they might ask you about extended offers, but this is usually just for a deadline reason so they can get back to you in time.
Yes, 240 hrs is overkill...
