D.E. Shaw Finance Associate Position Interview
Background: senior at a target school, econ major
I was recently invited to a 30-minute phone interview with D.E. Shaw for the Finance Associate position.
I was told to have pen and paper ready...
What should I expect?
I don't think they would make me do arithmetic problems over the phone since I can always resort to a calculator.
Pen & paper is kind of intimidating.
Also, what should I expect for later rounds, besides a stock pitch?
Thanks!
I read somewhere else on here that this guy apparently had a phone interview with GS where he had to answer c++programming questions over the phone. Someone was on the other end typing it in and compiling it.
I hope you don't have to do that. Good luck.
with Goldman Sachs?
yeh, i think so.

i saw a posting on my school's career website from DE Shaw. Its for its Fin Ops generalist and generalist associate programs. i applied to both. i have read on this site that these positions are almost impossible to get, and are only given to people who are bloody brilliant. im not a grandmaster chess player/phd or a bloody mystery novel author. im just an average guy who works his ass off. needless to say im NERVOUS. now im wondering what the interview is like and especially what kind of brainteasers are these guys gonna ask at the interview...I have a coupla weeks so I really want to prepare. Any insight on this would be fantastic and greatly appreciated.
im not nervous about my chances in the 2012 presidential election, so you shouldn't be worried about your chances here...
^^^ LMFAO... best response to the post.

help please. i know there was another thread but the last one sucked.
pray.
Is this the first "interview"? If so, it's just an initial screen: basic fit style questions and they want to make sure you're not an idiot. Just be sharp and sound confident, and you should get through.
