Interview while having just started a new job
I have just started a new job, and I got asked for an interview for a nice job I applied before I accepted this offer. I want to interview, but how do I tell them I have been in this job X for only 1 week? Hiding it doesn't seem right either. What should I do?
At my old consultancy, our competitor would try to poach us 1mo into starting work for 20% higher. They knew we were just starting out.
My point is, is that an employer wants you to come work for them if you are the better applicant. But, after switching, they want you to stay and be loyal. Think of it as a girl you meet when you're already dating a chick. She wants you to break up with her to date her, but she doesn't want you to do the same thing to her.
But, generally if you work for some place for 1 mo, then switch, you are obligated to stay there for at least a few years before switching again. So if you are going to switch, make sure that you plan to stay for a little bit. If you switched again within a year it would look jumpy.
Also, you have some moves here.
If you want to go to the new company, I would secure an offer, then throw out an opportunity for your current firm to counter. You could possibly get a pay bump for staying or leaving.
So, while interviewing for job. no.2, would you tell them that you have just accepted a position and been there for a week?
Yes.
But, it should be already apparent on your resume.
I am thinking about not including it in my resume -- too short term...
I would include it. It signifies you are valued and in demand.
You're going to have to explain it though if you put it on there regarding it being a better fit at the new place.
Also, if they lowball you, you want your current job to prop up a salary to match.
