Interviewing for non-MBB first

Let's say you are looking to get into consulting down the road. Obviously, getting into MBB is ideal. However, for first-time interviewers, wouldn't it be better to apply to other (non-MBB) firms maybe the year prior to when you actually want to get into MBB? And then even if you get in, you just choose to decline the offer.

This way, you can gain some experience and your first interview experience won't be you getting grilled by someone from MBB (and thus getting rejected outright)?

I disagree with what the above guy said. Go ahead and apply to as many consulting firms you want to and interview with them first if you can. I will say that you should not apply to a firm just for the pure fact that you want to get interview experience. You can easily do that on your own with a friend who's aiming for MBB as well. There are a ton of guides online and books you can purchase that would be way better in preparation than just a couple "real" interviews. Look up Victor Cheng LOMS program, read the book case-in-point, and top MBA schools post practice case books.
