Investing for American new to Canada?
Hi all, as an American new to investing in Canada,
May I check that a simple but optimal investing strategy would look something like this:
- Open Wealthsimple accounts as it is the easiest to use brokerage despite not having the lowest fees
- Max out on a Canadian fund like VGRO in RRSP; avoid PFICs & 15% withholding tax
- Invest the rest in US funds like VTI, VXUS and BND, adjusting the allocations as age goes up; incur the 15% withholding taxes and currency conversion losses but avoid PFICs which are worse
Is this an optimal arrangement?
