Investment Banking from NYC to Charlotte
Hi Guys,
I'm currently working in Investment Grade Finance for a big bank in NYC (second year associate). I'm trying to make a move to Charlotte / North Carolina (can't stand NYC anymore - but it's not the subject of this topic) and I am thinking about a few potential ways to do it, and I would like your opinion about it:
- First solution would be to do exactly what I currently do (acquisition financing) but in Charlotte. I believe Bank of America and Wells Fargo may have teams there? (I know they repatriated some teams to NYC, but not sure which ones)
- Second solution would be to join some sort of fund (private debt, direct lending, etc.) in line with my qualifications (financing, not M&A). I've heard about Barings, Asana, Capitala, Carousel, Golub, Pamlico, etc. If you guys have a list of other companies, I'll take that too.
- Third solution, that interests me a lot, would be to move to Real estate investment banking. That's a sector that I like a lot and I would really enjoy working on transactions in this sector. However, I don't know if any of the big banks have these teams in Charlotte? If not, do you know any big fund specialized on this sector in the area?
Any opinion / comment on my current expectations are more than welcomed ! And if anyone is in a similar situation or currently works in these departments in Charlotte, I'd love to connect !
Thanks again
Jefferies REIB group is HQ’d in Charlotte. WF has real estate banking teams in DC and NYC but not Charlotte. BAML I believe is mostly if not all NYC for REIB though they have a syndications desk in Charlotte.
I’m not any help outside of the real estate stuff
I thought WF had RE teams down in Charlotte - I could be wrong but I remember a few of the cmbs and reit teams were down there.
They most likely have a CMBS team but again I don’t know for sure. I was talking about true real estate investment banking (M&A, equity / debt offerings for real estate companies) which is housed under eastdil secured
Gotcha, thanks. Admittedly, RE is a huge orb of ignorance for me.
Thanks JSmithRE2010
Any other insight?
Thanks
