Investment Management Internships in Virginia Beach
I'm attending a small school in Virginia, Regent University. I am strongly interested in finance (namely investment management) and was wondering if anyone knows of any firms in the area where I could obtain an internship. I will only be a freshman in the fall, but I recognize that because my school is not a target, working hard is expected. I had a high school GPA of a 4.3 and straight A's in PSEO classes. I am currently an economic development and finance intern for my city. Thanks for the help!
There isnt much investment activity going on in VB.
And going to regent is not going to get you any looks, it may be a negative because it is a christian university.
I would transfer to UVA/WM....even VTech/VCU/GMU/ODU
The fact that you go to a school where it is super expensive, and getting you no looks is a waste of time. Isnt Regent like 30K?
I got a full tuition scholarship so I wont be paying very much at all. Sticker price with room and living expenses is about 26k. I realize it will require a lot of work.
your best bet in VB (great place, by the way, I'm from not far from there) is PWM internships. there's offices from all the firms in town center, some close to the beach, downtown norfolk, newport news, and williamsburg. but if you really want AM, I agree with the above. even though there's wilbanks smith thomas and signature financial in downtown norfolk, there's a very deep ol boy network in VB/norfolk that still exists. so unless you went to woodbury forest or episcopal (preftigious boarding schools) before regent, you're significantly disadvantaged. I went to school out of state and even though my family's been in that area since the turn of the 20th century, the network there lives and dies by alma mater.
ideal schools for VA recruiting are UVA, W&M, W&L, georgetown, hampden sydney, and then a notch down would be VT, JMU, GMU, etc etc. nothing against VT, but the network factor at some of the smaller schools is huge.
unless you love Regent, I'd transfer for better opportunities. I know a guy personally who's an alum of there having a helluva time finding a job.
Thanks!
