Iphone 4 - The Truth
OK, so the iPhone 4 was released in late June. Speculation around the phone's service caused a hiccup in orders, but they're flying off the shelves once again. They are still out of stock everywhere. I just got mine last week after 2 weeks of patiently waiting.
The phone is literally the worse phone, from a voice perspective, that exists. I have, without exaggeration, dropped every call on the phone since I opened the box. I live in a major city, with all bars of service. The voice service is horrendous.
The strange thing is that the lightening fast apps, email and web browser make me happy I got the phone. It is still the hottest phone on the market. If you make the money, you have to buy one. The shitty service just kind of shows that the iphone has become a status symbol. People buy it even if it doesn't completely work.
Has anyone else got this phone?
I got it the first day it came out -- first smartphone I've owned so I have no basis for comparison.
I live in LA, so the voice service here isn't as spotty as SF or NYC.
I'm on the phone a lot, and dropped maybe 3 or 4 calls since I first picked it up in late June. I didn't notice the reception to be any better or worse than T-Mobile (which was what I was on). I hear Verizon has the best coverage - and Apple is rumored to come out with a CDMA phone early next year for Verizon.
The reception issues from my experience have been overblown (but I did notice that the free bumper they sent to me helped avoid the death grip issue with voice reception). Also, I did use it up in Canada when I was visiting family, and the reception seemed much better there (roaming on Rogers). So part of the reception/voice quality is likely due to AT&T as well.
I also use Skype on my iPhone, and it works great, sometimes even better than regular voice calls (especially if you're indoors with crappy reception but have good Wi-Fi).
Are you trolling or trying to let everyone know you are a tool? How could you be proud that you own a phone which readily admit is horrible at making calls? That sounds idiotic. It's like buying a car with no engine and bragging to people how well it can float in water.
It's not the hottest phone on the market, I assure you. At best it may be the hottest device, but in my book it hardly qualifies as a phone.
Glad you spent your hard earned money on a status symbol.
...man I hope this was a troll, lol.
Regards
I have one and the reception thing does suck but I don't find it unbearable. How can you say it's not the hottest phone on the market? It was launched over a month ago and is still sold out in most places, and that's in only one color. I don't think its the best PHONE on the market though. However it does have the best software, applications, etc. (IMO). Apple is that way with almost all of their products. They don't have the best hardware or specs per say, but their ease of use and software are their big selling points.
I'm just not a fan of Apple and the last season spec they have on their products. I will stick with my HTC Evo which doesn't have to be hacked just to have a reasonable level of functionality.
Regards
This may sound weird...but how are you holding the phone? When i first got mine, i dropped almost every call too. Recently, i started gripping the phone from the top half (volume controls) and I don't drop calls as often as before. Try not to grip it from the bottom. Weird, i know, but what can you do besides getting another phone?
If you want a good phone, buy a 2003 Nokia.
Wait, the iPhone is actually used to do phone calls?
Hmm...all its users I know have fooled me by never doing it in my presence.
