IR as a Career Path

I've been looking a lot into different paths after graduation and wanted to get a better insight into a career in Investor Relations. I know it's not as financially attractive as being on the deal side of PE, but that doesn't matter that much to me.

Anyone knows what the hours, pay, career progression, and nature of the work in IR is like?

Thanks!

My roommate just accepted an offer as an IR associate at a very large fund. He noted that they only hire Associates with 1-2 years of experience, unsure if this is standard/if you can get a role directly out of undergrad - I guess network and find out.

The role comped much better than I thought. Low 6 figures with decent bonus. ~60 hrs of work a week. IR work can vary heavily depending if you're a sales person meeting with prospective LPs or the analytics/diligence folks.

Happy to answer any specific questions you have!

From what I hear it is quite an interesting role, there are some IR roles in MF PE where you sit with the deal teams to really understand the deals. That way you can better handle the questions that LPs have.

Comp is still good and there is still some carry allocation from what I understand. A stressful period is likely to be when your fund is raising a new fund.
