Is an equity research internship valuable for consulting?

Hi, I couldn't get a strategy/consulting gig but received offers to these internships. Which would help me better for FT consulting? Might not be in an ideal situation, but this is what I have.

Generally speaking, you want to capitalize on two variables: brand name and impact. Since you're looking at a boutique and a startup, the focus IMO should be on your potential impact in these positions, as both will have some transferable skills and would feed into a "why consulting" story.

Just from what you've described, both are good, but IMO the startup position looks a bit better in terms of impact. I imagine it would also make for better stories than what you could do in a typical ER internship.

But you also want to consider: what if, in the next year, you change your mind on consulting or you don't make it through recruitment? Which internship would you rather have? For example, if ER is your #2 career goal next to consulting, I would go with the ER internship, possibly.

Thanks for the rep. both have well-established brand names. The ER boutique is top 3 in the country & have done pretty well for a long time. The startup itself is almost reaching $10 B in valuation as of now, so not necessarily a small startup per se.

Was just wondering whether the work functions would be valuable towards consulting. Got an offer already, and now have more details on the jobs.

ER: still standard ER, could rotate to IBD Startup: Growth advising for merchants on the startup platform (new and old). Basically, helping merchants on the platform grow their product (usually through guiding them on how to do marketing, etc).
