Is an offer likely after this?
I recently had a superday at a regional BB for an SA IBD position. Yesterday I had a phone interview with an MD that went well and at the end of the interview they used language that seemed really positive to me. They really encouraged me to call them back personally if I was required to make a decision by any other firms and also said that they are going to move as fast as possible to make decisions. He also said I was a very talented individual.
Finally, someone else who has been involved in the recruiting process emailed me almost immediately after and said to please let him know if I get any other offers. He also said they would let me know within the next few weeks (I went through appication process early as I was a semi target schooler)
So what do you guys think, is an offer pretty likely based on this?
The tone you describe sounds positive. Typically banks will make decisions quickly, but given that this is the accelerated process they may be less organized/unsure how many early decisions they want to make without seeing other candidates. I wouldn't lose hope, I actually had a situation where I interviewed and was well received by the group (similar feedback to what you mention above) but due to head count uncertainty they did not make a decision till nearly 3 weeks later and I got the offer. It turns out that a return offer had been repeatedly deferred by an SA, and finally they just pushed my offer through because they were tired of waiting for resolution on the back end. Everyone I spoke to said they were excited to bring me on board after meeting me and were frustrated that they couldn't extend the offer immediately because they were unsure about being able to take someone from my Super Day. Just some food for thought...
Dude, it means that you should let them know if you have any other exploding offers. A BB or no IB for that matter will give you an offer after having one phone interview. You may have gotten the green light to move to the superday and they will speed up the process for you if you have to respond to another offer.
Sounds like he already had the superday. nmbrluvr, this sounds like a very positive indication to me. Don't stop interviewing elsewhere, but based on your post, I'd say yes, an offer is likely.
Ran into the same situation when I was recruiting. Exceptionally positive tone afterward, personal contact information from a number of senior staff, frequent follow-up calls from them . . .
I didn't get an offer until three weeks later, however. The MD I ended up summering under told me it was simply because of how irregular the accelerated process is with a number of different superdays in the same month and the different reply timeframes they place on candidates. It can be frustrating, I know, but I'd say if anything, it's a more positive indication.
What would people say if this same thing happened except it was after just a first round phone interview?
It would simply indicate that they're likely to invite you in for the superday or an in-person interview.
