Is Asset Management dying?
I had my sights set on AM as a long term goal to shoot for, but recently I keep hearing that AM as an industry is downsizing because of technology, the DoL ruling, etc.
How accurate is this? Does this mean AM jobs aren't going to exist 10-20 years down the line? Is AM no longer worth pursuing?
Thanks!
.
I don't think its really fair to say that the AM industry is dying, rather as entry level guys we need to adapt our skills to be more technologically savvy by learning Python, etc. The only jobs that will be automated away are probably your true fundamental analysis guys that have a limited technology background. Just having the finance knowledge won't be good enough anymore, we will need to be able to do complex analysis and complete tasks quickly. I wish I had taken the time to learn Python, R, SQL, VBA when I was still in school.
