Most don't get caught, still a very real thing. I won't forget when I was on my phone at 3 am and got a CNBC notification about a major airbag recall on BMWs and the stock dropped well before the news came out.

This might sound stupid on the surface, but I don't think insider trading is morally wrong. The stock market isn't a zero-sum game where in order for there to be winners, there must be losers, right? If that's the case, isn't it a victimless crime? Now obviously I'd never do it if given the opportunity, because it is so not worth any jail time. But in terms of philosophy, am I in the wrong here?

There is a wealth of historical evidence to suggest that insider trading is not a victimless crime. Moreover, there's also ample evidence to suggest that insider trading produces suboptimal outcomes for the markets and the economy as a whole.
You could argue the victim is the market as a whole. Why would the average joe invest in the markets knowing professionals have info he'll never be able to obtain. Transparency of the markets is what keeps them viable. If you don't know why anything is trading the way it is, the risk far outweighs the reward.
Yeah agreed. Robbing a bank shouldn't really be considered morally wrong either, should it? I mean everyone's deposits are FDIC insured, right? Anyone foolish enough to keep over $250k in a bank account deserves to be punished anyhow.
