Is it love if youve never met?

My girlfriend's brother is a great guy but recently he's had a little trouble with women. Anyway, she suggested he try online. So things werent going great but recently (about 3 months ago) he met this girl online from Australia. I know what you guys must be thinking but hear me out. He raves madly about her all the time, I've never seen him like this since I've been with his sister (a couple of years now). She's very pretty, seems great to him and he's fantastically happy! The point is however, he hasnt met her yet and he thinks he's in love with her.

I've never tried online dating but I find it a little strange you fall for someone without meeting them. I'm posting this here because I saw a post about online dating a while back and it got some good feedback. I need serious answers here (I know the Manti Te'o cracks so dont waste your time)..I'm worried for him because I'm gonna ask his sister to marry me this summer and I dont want her to be picking up the pieces for this guy if his heart gets broken. He's supposed to meet her soon, she's flying in.

Any thoughts?

It's great if it works out. On or offline it's a crapshoot, so do what you gotta do

Agreed. However, I'm not sure about the depth of their relationship. I mean its possible to have fallen for someone online but he's the sensitive type. I'd hate for it to scupper my plans when I can help him earlier.

Pretty bizarre, but if he sleeps with her and she's not actually a dude (or something else unexpected), maybe it will be fine. More importantly, this isn't your problem and don't interfere with your future in-laws lives. Nothing good can come from it. Butt the fuck out.

She's clearly not a dude (they've Skyped, etc). I know its not my problem per se but my gf and her brother are close and I know its going to turn out to be my problem later, so i was hoping to avoid that by potentially helping him now.

How mad? Took a picture of his tongue and sent to her? The point is as along as long as he's happy, it shouldn't be a problem for anyone, right?

Just the usual, how hes never met anyone like her etc! True, but I dont think you see the problem I may have.

I dated a girl for three years that I met online. Problem with online dating is people pretend to be something they're not - if they're honest from the get go this problem is avoided and absolutely it can work out. But more likely, he just wants to get laid.

I dont think he would have much trouble getting laid but he gets attached quickly I'd say. He's good guy so I dont see problems getting women.

I have no reason to doubt the girl and from her picture she is very pretty but I guess I'm setting myself up for a pre-emptive strike. I know for sure, if this falls apart (i.e. she turns out to be someone else), my plans for proposing will be the furthest thing from my gf's mind.

He could easily video chat with her to confirm that she's the girl in her photos. Yea online is a crapshoot for men, but occasionally you get lucky. I managed to find and meet up with a girl through online that was honestly one of the most beautiful girls I've ever met. I was extremely lucky though and think that online is generally a waste of time for men.

He has. I'm still suspicious as I've never done it before. Maybe Im being overtly cautious or silly/selfish.

When you were doing the online thing, how long before did you meet? Any time did you feel you were falling for her before you met? Weird question I know

I believe that he may think it is love and it may or may not be. Either way they are really going to find out whether or not they are compatible when she visits. Based on their interactions, it will probably be easier to get a gauge on where there relationship is headed

Why are you worrying? You are acting like a clingy woman.

Because I love this girl and dont want my proposal to be ruined. I thought I established that.

Wasn't aware you were proposing to her brother, did NY legalize that?
