Is it okay to drop a minor after I submitted my application?

My little brother in college just asked me whether it would be okay to drop a minor in philosophy after he had submitted some of his applications. This reminds of the old times when I would stress about gpa rounding, background check, etc. So I figured to share a list of things that once worried the shit out of me in recruiting but turned out to be not that important. They are based on my own and friends' experiences with BBs and EBs across different regions. I hope the list can give incoming prospects some ease in those situations.

  • It's okay to round your GPA or even stretch a bit.
I am not saying you should do that. But if you ever feel like a little bit of extra rounding is necessary, it's fine. I have seen people rounding 3.53 to 3.55, 3.77 to 3.80, and even 3.63 to 3.7. Of course you should be prepared to bear the risk and provide explanations when you get caught. But the truth is that you will most likely be fine. HRs or background check agencies screen hundreds or thousands of resume and transcripts. They won't even bother to check that one or two digitals.

  • It's okay to add/drop majors or minors after application submission
It's quite common for people to switch majors and minors. Some of my friends put up a second major when they recruit and drop it once they secure the offer. As long as you are not completely faking it (ie. art history major with no finance courses listing a finance major on resume), you will be fine. Banks don't care.

  • Background check agency is not FBI
They simple do not verify bullet points. They probably won't even call. During my first background check, I sent heads-up to all my previous internship and even volunteer supervisors saying that they might receive a call for bg check. I even bothered a PM for that. In the end none of them was called. Once I found out that I got the date of an internships wrong (off by a month), but nothing happened.

  • Failing a class will not get your offer rescinded
Banks spend a lot of money and efforts to recruit you. They won't rescind your offer simply because you fail a class. After all, we all make mistakes. So if you ever fail a class, just be prepared to explain it when you are asked. I have friends who failed a class for whatever reasons in college. I don't think any of them was asked to provide an explanation. Of course, if you punch a professor and get suspended, that's different.

Dont fudge the gpa.. you will regret it. As for minors, nobody gave a shit about it in the first place so feel free to drop or change it as you like.
