Is it possible or has the boat sailed?
So I decided to go back to college in hopes of making into IB. I’m 22 at the current moment and will be 25 by the time I get my degree in Economics. I stopped going to school because I was killing it in my residential sales career aka I’m a real estate agent. I’ve always wanted to be a banker but I got side tracked and was wondering if it is still possible to break into it after I graduate?
Your age doesnt matter bro, they dont even ask that. But you want to break in during college, not after you graduate. As long as you got a high gpa, go to a good school, and network, you should get interviews
Have a good friend that switched majors AND schools, and had to start all over again pretty much like you. He graduated with a FT IB offer to a reputable MM bank at the age of 26. Definitely possible, you just have to HIT THE GROUND RUNNING. That means pick up IB internships at regional/boutiques, leverage those experiences, and tons of cold emailing. Good starting point is always your alumni network and then branch out from there (there are tons of resources on this forum with regards to networking). Just be hungry, learn how to talk to people, and don't remain stagnant.
Sounds like you would have a great store for RE banking. Definitely doable - I'd reach out to people specifically in RE groups as you can clearly demonstrate your passion, can spin it that you did residential before on your own, but you wanna be in the major leagues etc.
Echoing the statement above, you would be a perfect fit for reib. I suspect that you could easily craft a good story and actually stand out with your background.
Thanks you all of you for the responses. I never thought about going the RE way but now I will definitely look into it. I guess it is time to put in that work.
