Is it possible to switch from a Technology Associate role to Quantitative Research Associate?
I'm currently doing a master's in computer science at a target school. I just received an interview request from BNY Mellon for a Technology Summer Associate internship. My goal is to work in quantitative research for a trading desk. Is it possible to lateral from a Technology Associate position to quantitative research?
I tried asking at Quantnet, but it's kinda quiet there (not too many people posting).
Generally speaking no - at least not for BNY-type technology roles (exceptions that come to mind are Citadel's FTAP, and certain strats desks at BBs). BNY is a pretty shoddy company anyway.
It's not shoddy if it's the only that's contacted you. I feel lucky since I'm in my 30s and breaking into the industry has been really difficult. I know a few people that would be glad to have this internship if only for a way to get experience.
If it's your only opportunity you don't have a choice but to take the interview. Plus, you have no guarantee of even getting the tech job. Do the interview first.
Yep, definitely going to prep well for this interview.
Hey man - no need to get defensive and throw shit at me. I'm just giving my opinion based on people who have had that exact role.
Besides, don't you have an opportunity at BAML?
