a few of my colleagues sign up under their gfs name and we can only shake our heads. a) the time involved to be good at "day trading" makes the whole endeavor a futile effort 2) still not permitted  3) what about AML, users are supposed to use the account under their own name 4) tax complications, maybe?

Why is this not permitted? What if you are sending your money for someone else to manage (maybe a friend or sibling or whoever)? Don't people do this all the time. People in congress also say that they have someone else managing their money when asked.
