Is it possible to transition from consumer banking to portfolio management ?

A little background: Im 22 personal banker been in consumer for a little over 2 years. Dropped out of college before joining the bank.

My market director tell me if i climb through the ranks all the way to financial advisor, get my licenses, I can make the transition. But i was wondering if its doable just with experience and not a college degree. I was planning on going for the CFA then going into PM, PWM, or trading. Has anyone made the transition? What tips would you give someone like me?

Thank you!
