Is LinkedIn Premium worth it?
I tried cold messaging a guy from a firm I'm interested in and it led me to LinkedIn premium. The first month free, $29.99 a month after that. It allows you to direct message recruiters (don't really care), see who's viewed your profile (aka which "friends" of yours are stalking your profile), be a featured applicant, see how you compare to other candidates that applied for the same job, receive online video courses, and get instant access to salary insights (which should probably be available on glassdoor anyways).
So, people who have tried it, is it really worth it?
Not at all. I have found reaching out to firms by email is much more effective. After all, they can still see your profile before or after they speak with you.
I hate LinkedIn
yo fr I wish it wasn't a thing
I used it to inmail a billionaire earlier in 2018 and ended up on the phone with him for 4 hours. So yeah I'd say it's worth it but it depends on your copywriting skill set and what you're trying to do.
Stormy, is that you?
underrated comment
yea sometimes it can be a big waste of time
Just use the free trial and see for yourself. Cancel it before it charges you. That's what I did. The LinkedIn Learning aspect is awesome if you have any bit of motivation to learn. However, my school pays for a subscription to that anyway, so premium is not worth it to me. I do plan on purchasing a subscription after I graduate tho, or at least stealing one of my friend's logins that are still in undergrad.
Outside of the learning aspect, it was okay, but I value my spotify subscription more. There is no way I'd pay $30 a month to be a "featured applicant." That won't do shit for you.
It’s worth it to cold message people for networking. I’ve only used it the last couple months during a job search but my response rate is literally 100%.
Same experience here - I cancelled it before my free trial ran out to avoid the first month's charge, but after a couple weeks without it, you realize how useful some features are vs. regular LinkedIn for learning more about how your folks in your network are connected to each other and who you could potentially ask for introductions.
Plus, it's nice to know who is actually viewing your profile so you can reach out if it's a good opportunity. Worth it, at least for those on the job hunt!
Didn't use the learning aspect of it but tried premium for a few months when I was on the job hunt. Absolutely worth it. I appeared in about 3x more searches from recruiters and was able to see exactly who was looking at me so I could reach out to them.
The value that I've seen from LinkedIn premium is the greater number of searches you're able complete while looking for contacts. The free version is very limited in how many people you can look up, or browse under a company search.
If you're casting a wide net and are expecting to browse many pages of profiles at a company, it's worth it.
But as others have said, you should be cold emailing people. Just use LinkedIn to find relevant people and then use their info to plug into an email (pretty easy to find firm specific email address formats).
Its definitely worth it but more worth it if you have the timing right. I have found it to be particularly helpful while doing heavy interviewing/recruiting/job searching. If you aren't in that mode then regular LinkedIn will probably be enough.
Definitely worth it if you are in the process of looking for a new job and networking
The only thing I'd want is to see who views my profile and I admit that would be purely to stroke my ego so no, I won't pay for it. Its not worth it. Also, I second the comments saying LinkedIn is trash. Ban all entrepreneurs and motivational speakers.
Even if you have premium, if your viewers are browsing on private mode, you cannot see who viewed your profile correct?
That's correct, premium mode won't reveal those who choose to view privately. You do however get to see the past 90 days worth of views - which may or may not be useful to some. As echoed previously, it would just be an ego stroke for me so I stay with the free version.
You're better off spending that $ on WSO Premium brah.
Even if you have premium, if your viewers are browsing on private mode, you cannot see who viewed your profile correct?
LinkedIn is almost as bad as Facebook now
I would argue that LinkedIn worse than Facebook now. Most of my age group rarely use Facebook and the only thing that shows up on my feed are people sharing funny videos or photos.
Meanwhile, LinkedIn is filled with people desperate for an ego stroke. Pretending to be super dedicated to their careers. Throwing out content just for the sake of throwing out content. And commenting on other’s self congratulatory posts just to get traffic to their own pages to hopefully secure a better job than the account executive job they have that pays $40k a year with no real benefits other than free beer served on Fridays after 4 pm.
LinkedIn Premium does not seem to be a must-have...focus more on the IB guides you can find rather than paying $30/month for a marginal, if that, difference.
