Is more experience (say >7yrs) frowned upon?
Is having more experience (6-8yrs) frowned upon for a regular MBA at top 10 Bschool?
I currently have ~6yrs work exp. If I apply for fall 2012 or 2013, it will be 7 or 8 years.
Im a career switcher, probably trying to break into IB or Trading.
It varies a lot from school to school. HBS, for instance, is virtually impossible to crack once you're past 27 -- http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_JSVsvp9BxWE/THXX49oDkuI/AAAAAAAAAQw/6svxh9MlG…. Wharton, on the other hand, has a much larger group of students who are 30+.
I would recommend doing school-by-school research on the age distributions of incoming students, to help you decide which school make the most sense to spend time targeting.
Good points above. I've also gotten the impression that if your UG GPA was less than good, you may benefit from waiting a few extra years as that mitigates the impact of your GPA on your overall profile.
