Is Moving to Hoboken Worth It?
Hey monkeys. By way of background, I am a management consultant at a Tier 2 shop focused on private equity DD (think Parthenon or LEK). I am fortunate enough to have secured a gig for next summer at an upper middle market PE firm where my all in compensation will be ~$300k plus carry.
I have quite a few friends that are trying to sell me on the idea of moving to Hoboken. After conducting my due diligence, it seems like there are quite a few nice, luxury buildings and am confident that I can live like a king.
Have any other monkeys made the move to Hoboken/JC or researched it? If yes please advise on the following:
What is the quality of the nightlife?
What quality of tail can I pull and how often?
How successful/prestigious is the average denizen of Hoboken/JC?
How does Hoboken/JC compare to Manhattan?
Thanks in advance for your help. Silver banannas to the top responders.
It was for Frank Sinatra's parents. Think in that direction.
One question though... Isn't it easier to move to Queens than Hoboken?
What is the quality of the nightlife?- not bad. Lots of bars, so usually can find what you are looking for (clubs, laid back, drinking, local bar, outside) What quality of tail can I pull and how often?- I feel pretty good. I live in hoboken for a couple of years. Haven't really been on a dry spell when I wasn't dating How successful/prestigious is the average denizen of Hoboken/JC?- It's like any other place. You probably get more couples/families in Hoboken than five years ago, but NYC/JC are an uber ride away. New people are always popping up. How does Hoboken/JC compare to Manhattan?- I always think Hoboken is the same price wise, but you get more space in terms of a place. Hoboken is definitely more quiet. If you look at a map, north is Weekhawken (basically all residential), middle is Hoboken (some big business, but mostly bars/residential) and JC is south (more big business and also more of a diverse crowd). If you ever read the news or NJ.com, you will rarely see crimes/killings in Weehawken/Hoboken, but people get murdered all the time in JC. Jersey City dependss on the area more than anything else as it is a big area. Hoboken is smaller, most people have good jobs, and the only bad hobo spot is 1st-4th street on Jackson
