Is my boyfriend good?

Hi everyone,

I am not in this industry but I have been now dating this guy in NY for a while and I am hoping to get some advice. He is always very busy and says his work is very important and with tons of responsibility. He says he works at Guggenheim in a restructuring division, and I was hoping to understand something more about this place. I have never heard of this company (lol it look like a museum) so I am thinking that maybe this guy is just working at a bad place and trying to impress me?

I tried to look up his firm online but honestly it is very hard to get an idea of how good it is so hoping to get some help here.

thank you!

honestly yeah because I would like to understand more about his job and why he spends so little time with me. If he is actually doing important work at a great firm I understand better.

When one's girlfriend found WSO and posted here to know more about her boyfriend's workplace, that's unusual but very respectful as you first trying to understand what he is doing before judging him. That is good attitude.

About the workplace, it is a good place to work (good is always a subjective word but he worked hard, very hard to get there). The work he does is in finance that's why he is working so much. If you want to know more about the workplace instead of looking for a particular firm, google about investment banking or the division where he works.

Good luck!

P.s. I wonder the reply from your boyfriend to this thread as he is probably also in WSO.

Facts, the first thing I thought when I was reading this post was, "this has to be fake or a troll". Knowing exactly what website to go to ask this question, and post in the right section of this website is a bit unbelievable. Almost anyone I know outside of finance would try any other social media website. Anyways, your boyfriend probably works 80 hours a week on average, and you should be grateful he is spending time with you in the first place. That might sound a bit harsh, but many people struggle to maintain personal relationships in this line of work due to the intense hours required. Also, if you have been dating this guy for a while I'm surprised you came here instead of finding his firms website with a simple google search (maybe you have). How bad of a place do you really think it could be when the front page says they have 300+ billion in assets?

Well at the analyst level it’s questionable whether the work is important. Typically it’s admin type work with a little bit of modeling in Excel. The senior level are the ones actually making the revenue for the bank. That being said the hours are long, so he’s not lying when he says he’s busy with work. He’s also making over six figs all in even at A1 level so there’s that.
