Is My Career Plan Practical?
I am moving to Waltham, MA soon for my MA in International Economics & Finance beginning this year at Brandeis University. I applied to Boston College's MSF program too but couldn't make it through the admissions. I had plans to apply to European programs but ended up applying to the USA. Putting my guilt of not getting accepted to a good program away and planning for the future. I need some guidance and tips from experienced professionals here on WSO.
I am an international student from Asia. I am aiming at entry level roles in equity research/ investment management. I have chosen this school in MA because it is near to Boston and many great AM shops have their offices there like Fidelity, Wellington, State Street, Eaton Vance and others. Brandeis is not a target school and is almost unknown outside of Northeast. Another negative point about me is that I don't have any internship experience yet and I am a recent college graduate. Good thing about me is that I have passed my CFA level 1 exam.
Masters program at Brandeis is 21 month long which can give me the opportunity to seek internship for summer next year. Can my progress in CFA program help me to get in some internship programs in asset management firms in Boston? What other things I should take care of? How should I take my future moves to be successful?
