Is My Salary Competitive for NYC?

I’m starting out of undergrad in corporate VC and my company recently sent me an updated contract with a new TC because my office was no longer located in the suburbs but instead in NYC.

I’ve heard NYC is really expensive, and my friend and I found an apartment in Chelsea for $2300/month that is only 2 minutes from the gym so I’m getting really excited.

A lot of my friends went into IB and are making it rain compared to me though, but not exactly. IB has such a weird bonus structure, some in the group get double their base, some just get a little more than their base. For me, my salary is based on a 35/hour work week, but the hours are more like 45-50. I’ve provided a breakdown below of my TC based on the potential hours I’ll work.

TC (35 hours/week): $98K
TC (40 hours/week): $109K
TC (45 hours/week): $125K
TC (50 hours/week): $142K

And just for fun

TC (60 hours/week): $175K

Is this a competitive salary in NYC? I was freaking out for a while that I didn’t get into IB, but will I be able to get as lit as people in IB do in the city on the weekends? Also I’m recently single so is this TC something that seems desirable (not that I want a gold digger, but more like I want to be wanted by gold diggers).

But enough of the ramble, my question is whether or not my starting salary out of undergrad is competitive compared to other starting salaries out of undergrad in NYC? Am I going to be able to live as well as someone who is starting out of undergrad in Investment Banking or Private Equity (or maybe even as a quant) in the city? why is the WSO app so baf
