Is Operations at Goldman Sachs credible?
Topic pretty much explains it self. Is Operations at Goldman Sachs a credible position to have an internship or work at?

What do you mean with credible? a) People would believe you actually work there, or b) it carrying a certain degree of prestige?
On a) probably yes.
On b), it's like being an assistant chef on an aircraft carrier. Wow you fucking work for the US Navy with F-18E/Fs and all that stuff, but you're still flipping burgers so this won't get you into NASA (while flying F-18s from carrier decks maybe would). Still some girls will dig the US Navy aspect.
Great analogy, very accurate. Except in ops you could be anything from chef to F18 crew chief. There are many ops positions where you have to have a good knowledge of products and the business, much like a crew chief has to have a good knowledge of the f18 he works on.
thats a pretty funni analogy, lol I've always hear rumor that once you start in the back office like Operation, you'll never be able to go anywhere else.
How feasible is it to transfer between department to eventually fly the jets or.. do real front line work (from operation into IBD)?
there is difference between layman's prestige and street prestige. you can tell ordinary pple you work at GS, and they will reply with 'ooohs' and 'ahhhs' but someone on the Street will take one look at your square-toed shoes and know that this kid does nothing but record transactions all day.
so in sum, its better than nothing but doing banking at a boutique will be a better opportunity. but you will have to forgo the layman's prestige. while people on the street will respect you more if you work at Silver Lane than in GS ops, regular pple will just think you are working at a bowling alley.
you get cheap access to a nice gym and if you're lucky you get to tell people you saw Lyold Blankfein on the tread mill. no one at a boutique gets to meet his holiness
.
I know some smart kids on Wall St. (some high school friends who went to BU, and one who went to Stern).
I heard GS treats its employees well no matter what they do and you can actually make a lot of money there without working 80-100 hour weeks.
