Is Oxbridge a non-target in the US?
I am an American studying STEM for undergrad at Oxbridge and I was hoping to be able to come back to America for a SA or FT role in IB. I was wondering if Oxbridge opens doors in IB in the US like target schools. Sure, in the UK it is considered to be one of the best colleges for IB (I disagree with this, but whatever), and it probably has a good reputation in the US as well, however given the absence of campus recruiting, lack of representation of alumni on the street, and a weird grading system (we don't get GPAs), would, for all intents and purposes, going to Oxbridge be the same as going to a non-target for US IB recruiting?
Kind of. It's somewhat similar to (but worse than) JHU in that it has a strong reputation and having it on your resume is a good signal you're an intelligent candidate but it doesn't have the same resources and established pipeline for recruiting that target schools have.
Key to recruiting out of Oxbridge is networking very hard. You can find Oxbridge alum in NYC but don't have to limit yourself to alum, often having the Oxbridge name is enough to get some other analysts/ associates on the phone with you. Also consider that your vacation period may not align with the internship time so consider doing a summer in IB in London and recruiting FT in NY
Thanks for the advise! I am not terribly concerned about the timing of the internship. I think my primary concern is getting a first round interview. Also, would it be possible that I'd be rejected automatically on the basis that I go to school abroad and scheduling things such as interviews and superdays would be logistically difficult? I can't imagine that they would be happy flying me to New York from London.

People usually say recruit directly for London (which should be relatively easy coming from Oxbridge) and they lateral after 2-3years to New York. It’s the tried and tested process and I think a lot easier than going directly to NY although when I was in Ugrad we had a few kids go directly although so it’s definitely possible you just got to really want it.
