Is The Hype About Steph Curry Real?

He has dominated ESPN News and he has dominated the NBA. However, many still do not want to believe the hype about Steph Curry.

Just take a look at his accomplishments, they speak for themselves:

  • NBA Finals Champion
  • 2× NBA Most Valuable Player (2015, 2016)
  • 3× NBA All-Star (2014–2016)
  • 2× All-NBA First Team (2015, 2016)
  • Led the Warriors to the most wins in a regular season
  • All-NBA Second Team
  • NBA Scoring champion
  • NBA Steals leader
  • 50–40–90 club
  • NBA Three-Point Contest champion
  • NBA Sportsmanship Award
  • NBA All-Rookie First Team
  • AP Athlete of the Year
  • NBA Regular season record for made three-pointers (402)
  • NBA Record for most consecutive regular season games with a made three-pointer (152)
  • NBA Record for most consecutive playoff games with a made three-pointer (54)
  • NBA Record for most three-pointers made in a single playoffs (98)[149]
  • NBA Record for most three-pointers made in a game (12)
  • NBA Record for most points scored in an overtime period (17)
  • Warriors franchise leader in three-point field goals made
  • Warriors franchise record for most three-pointers made in a game

I really respect him for a number of reasons. Not only is he such a dominant and skilled force in the game, but he is a respectable guy with good character. He carries himself with class and he is not a headcase like some others are. I also really like the fact that he came from a "Non Target for NBA School" of which he is 1 of 6 players from Davidson College to play in the NBA. Overall he is just a great role model on and off the court and I am glad that the NBA has a face that kids can truly look up to.

This is a quote by Guard Isaiah Thomas explaining why it is so tough to guard him,

I don't think he ever goes down the court thinking 'I'm pulling up' or 'I'm taking it to the basket.' He reads the court so well that he doesn't need a plan. He can just rely on his instincts and react to the defense, and he can do it all, so he takes whatever you give him ... Steph plays like he's a wide receiver in football running an option route on every play. Everything he does depends on what the defender is doing. So when he's coming at you, if you're afraid of the three — which you should be — and you give him too much space, he'll knock it down. If you play too far up on the three, he'll take you off the dribble. If he beats you on the first step because you were playing too far up, say goodbye. He's already gone. If you sink back with him, he has the shiftiness and the quick release to step back and shoot ... And the worst part is that he's such a good passer, nobody's leaving their man to step up and help. You're on your own.

I am personally a huge follower of basketball and I have never seen someone come into the league and just rewrite record books like this.

Do not get me wrong, I am not saying he is the greatest of all time, that is reserved for Michael Jordan. However, I think he is up there. I am not sure why so many people hate him and try to belittle how great he is.

What do you guys think? Is he about the hype? Have you seen anyone do what he has been doing? And if so, who would you compare him to?

Scary thing about Curry is that he's like a microwave, he can get hot rather quickly to score points in barrages. Not a fan of either teams in the NBA finals, but I did enjoy the days when Golden State Warriors was an under-the-radar team before this whole fame and bandwagon; similar to the Seattle Seahawks.

I guess that's just the general nature of success.

haha okay. He was drafted in 2009 and is 28 years old. He had a couple of admittetly great seasons including this historic season but that statement is just funny. Have you already forgotten about Lebron?? Curry's career accomplishments are not even close to his (yet)

edit: just for fun, Wilt Chamberlain averaged in his rookie season(!) 37.5ppg 27rpg and won MVP

Steph, after 6 seasons, is the best shooter of all-time. That's really not a debate, he averages 2.91 shooting points per game. The second best all-time per game? Teammate Klay Thompson with 1.91 shooting points. Next is KD with 1.77.

Only one person has a better career 3 point percentage, Steve Kerr with 45.4% to Steph's 44.4%, and Kerr averaged 6 points a game to Curry's 22.4.

He needs to keep it up for another 2 or 3 seasons to be talked about in the top 10, but he's definitely a top 20 player if you respect the ability to shoot and create points from nothing.
