Is the option I hold European or American?

I trade on paper account with CBOE. I want to build more European option strategies but I cannot tell if the options I'm looking at are European or American.

I know most NYSE and NASDAQ traded stocks only have American options. American options' settlement date (ignore weeklies) is on the Friday before the 3rd Saturday. These stop trading on Friday.

Index options like the traditional S&P have European options. European options' settlement date is on the same Friday before the 3rd Saturday. But these stop trading eod on Thursday.

Since both AAPL Dec15 170 (American) and SPX Dec15 2645 (European) have the same settlement date I have no means to tell about an option if it is European or American by the settlement date alone.

> Is there a site to look this up? (Without costly subscription)
> Does CBOE Virtual Trading have the functionality to display this? Or another platform?

I have only mentioned equity underlyings but I'm also confused if A/E for forex or fixed income options.

Answers are much appreciated.
