Is this a Gas Scheduler role?

Hi all,

I have received an interview for a Commercial Analyst position and unsure if it sounds something similar to a Gas Scheduler role. It is at a large nat gas infrastructure business which handles the transportation, storage, and some processing for customers - they don't actually do any energy trading.

Main responsibilities:
Interfaces with and provides contractual support to Customers and the Operational Grid Controllers on a daily basis to:
- Carry out Company’s obligations for scheduling and allocating gas accurately and efficiently as required in its transportation, storage and processing agreements.
- Reporting information and data to gas market regulators to meet company’s market regulatory compliance obligations .
- Directly representing the company and supporting it’s Transmission customers.
- Maximise the commercial operational capability of assets , and leveraging the grid capability in identifying and closing out new and short terms commercial opportunities.

Accountabilities:
- Operationally managing Gas Transportation, Storage and Processing Agreements day to day to satisfy service obligations to customers across the asset portfolios.
- Process and verify data, ensuring accurate compilation of daily, monthly and ad-hoc transactions.
- Issue accurate maintenance notices to Company’s customers to meet contractual requirements, and work with customers in order to best meet their physical gas transportation needs.
- Managing and addressing all customer issues, queries and concerns.
- Develop customer relationships and understand each gas transaction behaviour and service utilisation.

It is also working under a 7 day a week rotating roster.

Does this sound similar to what a Scheduler does at a super major? Is it possible that I can leverage this experience into good exit opps?

Yeah that’s a gas scheduler role at pipeline/midstream. You’ll mostly be confirming gas of shippers and allocating imbalances. The key difference between that and scheduling at a true trade shop / super major / marketer is that your not moving molecules to make money or optimize assets. Your making sure that the pipeline customers (super majors/marketers) are within contractual requirements and that the pipeline is able to meet firm customer needs.

I think it’s a good opportunity to learn 101 of gas scheduling , your exit opp isn’t trading but gas scheduling at a true trade shop/super major which could eventually lead to trading role.
