Is this an appropriate email to send a Big 4 accounting recruiter that I'm reneging on in favor of a banking job?
Hello ______,
It is with great difficulty that I've decided and regretfully have to inform you I will not be able to join ______ as an intern this summer. I have been fortunate enough to receive an opportunity that is more in line with my career goals and that is the sole basis for this decision. I thank you and ______ for your time and consideration and apologize for the inconvenience that this may cause you.
Regards,
is that firm enough for them to understand im terminating my offer/ does just emailing my head recruiter suffice for reneging an accepted offer? thanks
Take out your middle sentence...
Yep, this.
"I have been fortunate enough to receive an opportunity that is more in line with my career goals and that is the sole basis for this decision." -> Take this out
can i ask why?
It isn't necessary to tell them their role was not fitting with your career path. Just be polite and move on, more polite thing would be to call.
can i ask why? i know the reason is supposed to be vague but giving them no reason at all?
You're right, you should specify that you're reneging for an IB role. Might even be helpful to include which tier of bank, just for clarity for the recruiter. Also, change "great difficulty" to "heavy heart" -- this may soften the blow.
Actually, he might as well say the bank, office, and sector he is working in. Hell just give them the exact location(within 3ft) that his in.
