Is this appropriate?
Confused about my situation and how to go about it. Looking for a quick answer on what others did. Currently a first year analyst wrapping up my 1st year on the job at a BB in a satellite office. Significant other who i've been dating since college moved to New York for her job, which is where the headquarters of the BB is. Is it appropriate to ask HR to move offices and give this as a reason to why I want to move or is this inappropriate especially because we are not married. Will people understand?
if there ain't a ring you better not sing about it to hr.
Tell us how it goes...
Sent the email a couple days ago, but have not gotten a reply. Should I be worried?
na hr is slow, example; you send an email Monday, they really don't read it until Tuesday/ Wednesday then they have to have a meeting on it before they follow up with you
Interesting. I thought if it was just a no, they would email me, but maybe it's a good sign that it's taking a little longer. Perhaps they could be doing their channel checks before replying back with any positive information. haha just being hopeful i guess.
I don't know the exact feel from a work standpoint but definitely from a high school to college one. Best of luck man.
still no word... how do i even follow up
HR can help facilitate those discussions, but they don't have any real say in the matter. It has to do with the Group Heads and their need for people. In generally, it's easier to move locations and/or groups after two years (not saying it's impossible after one). Also, I'd probably position it as you wanting to be at the BB HQ for better deal experience and exposure to more people, rather than for personal reasons.
I guess I wanted HR to connect me with whichever groups in New York that had openings. As someone in one group at the bank, it's not like I can just blindly email another staffer in a different group to see if any there are any openings. I know people lateral all the time as analysts leave before the 2 years is up. I would assume HR had more visibility on the recruiting situation so I thought to email them but no one has responded in 3+ days. Do you think I should follow up?
