Is this job a career pitfall?
Hi all,
I live and work in an 18-hour city and just started working at a large RE asset manager in an acquisitions/asset management hybrid role. I have past experience at a small-medium REPE firm with several asset classes, but decided to leave to get promised experience on different asset classes and exposure to more deal-side activity since I was in a pure AM role at my past job.
It's been almost a year, and what I've discovered about my new job is (A) the deal pipeline is far less robust than I would have hoped, keeping me tied to mainly AM work (B) I've been pigeon-holed into one asset, (C) my new boss is objectively verbally abusive, my coworkers did not acknowledge or warn me until shortly after beginning here. C is less of an issue, as I've just grown thicker skin, but it certainly won't keep me here any longer than I have to be.
**I know A is very bad, and I'm already looking for new options but is B something to be concerned about given I have AM and acquisitions jobs, it may be totally anecdotal but it does concern me in terms of career mobility.
Thanks.
