Is Training the Steet Worth the Cost?

During one of the interviews I had, someone recommended that I take one of the Training the Street courses. I looked up their 5 day core comprehensive program in New York and it costs 5000 dollars. To me the best take away of this course would be the knowledge I would gain, but could it also be a good resume booster? Is it worth spending 5k to attend this? Thanks for the input.

Short answer: No.

Longer answer: My concern is the timing. The material may be amazing - but in my view, the problem isn't the content it's that everything is being compressed into five days - you're paying for the speed not content. To me, that's what you do if you want to cram for a test. What you should focus on is ensuring you have a good foundation for your future career. How much do you think you're going to retain after a five-day cram session? A week after the course is over do you still think you'll have internalized everything that was taught?

For 1/10th of the cost of that five-day course, you can take some in-depth courses on TTS, Wall Street Prep, or (my recommendation) Breaking Into Wall Street. I often work with junior staff, and I usually recommend the BiWS courses - they are unbelievably in-depth. Cheaper, the video content and website access is yours for life, and the people I know come out of the courses retaining more info than I think they would from a five-day course.

My $0.02.

PS: I have no idea about other firms, but in my case when I hire someone, I rarely notice or care if someone has something like 'TTS seminar' on their CV. Having it wouldn't hurt, of course, but not having it wouldn't hurt either. YMMV.

Ok thanks for the feedback I will take a look. One of the reasons I am trying to get something to list on my resume is because the feedback I am getting due to my background is lack of technical skills. Ironically I am great with computers and excel, but I figured I would nail down some courses that actually prove it instead of trying to explain it.
