Is University of Michigan a target school? Will I have any trouble getting into IB?

I recently got accepted into Umich and I want to get into IB when I graduate. I already have a few internships under my belt, but I am looking to get an internship at a bigger firm my junior year. I am a LSA Economics major (I didn't apply to Ross because I didn't think I would get in), but I have taken a lot of finance related classes and have a 3.8 GPA. What's the best way to network during covid? At my older school we had an online networking system, but there weren't any IB guys listed on the network. I heard that there are some clubs to join that help with networking, so if any of you umich students/grads know of these could you please list them below. Also, how does Michigan stand in terms of the "target" school rankings for IB? I know that prestige and targeting matter a lot in IB, and to my knowledge it seems like Michigan is a target, but I want to know the extent to which the uMichigan name holds. Any help or advice would be appreciated, thanks

More of a semi-target esp. since you're not in Ross. The previous internships will definitely help you though

Do you really think that not being in Ross makes that big of a difference? I thought firms care more about what college you go to versus what specific major you're in. However, I heard that Michigan allows Econ students to take classes at Ross.

Reapply to Ross, and try to get into the Ross Minor. Both will get you into resume drops, and combined with Econ will be a great combo

Is this the new hardo thing now? To complete coffee-fetching internships in highschool?

Other schools probably have higher percentage placement at BBs and EBs but when it comes to the sheer quantity of kids that enter the IB industry from small firms to large ones, Michigan is one of the top schools based on data I've seen. As a result, I would definitely call Michigan a target for IB. That being said, a lot of these kids definitely came out of Ross but I know lots of econ kids also get offers. While you might have to work a bit harder, you are definitely in a good situation just being at U of M. Go Blue!

Biggest disadvantage to not being in ross is not having the ross name. BB's and EB's don't recruit from ocr except for cvp. It's just mm like jefferies hw Rothschild Lincoln etc (this is how it was 2019, can't speak to more recently). As far as banks that come on campus and hold events, you just have to know when and where to show up. So if you join the finance and investment clubs you'll be in the loop. The hard part is convincing the recruiters that you're better than the ross kids, especially if you're Econ since it's labeled as ross rejects. Might be worth doing another major like math or stats to stand out

Not to hijack the thread, but how do you guys view Ross MBA? Not HWS level but is it still fairly decent?
