It looks like the Stimulus Bill is Dead

The GOP will not support $2,000 checks as the POTUS requested.  The country needs support and our government will not help them. I am not sure who to blame but if I had to pick someone, I would say the buck stops with the POTUS.   If he wanted a bigger check, he should have voiced his opinion a long time ago.  Now, the American people are screwed and congress is screwed.  I assume that Congress will be working on a new plan throughout the holidays.  No one is a big fan of congress but even they should be allowed to spend time with their families on Christmas.  Trump is already at Mar Lago.

Didn't he voice his opinion for $1,200 months ago? When he asked Nancy to send a bill giving Americans $1,200 and that he would sign it immediately? Sure $1,200 is not the full $2,000, but he has definitely supported an amount greater than $600.

Idk but your link does not indicate he wanted $1,200.  I assume that the republicans did not want more than $600.  He should have been communicating with his party.

Typical financeabc spouting complete bullshit. Trump CLEARLY wanted to give out 1200+ since the beginning. Dems fucked it up by wanting to launder money through foreign countries.

Trump has wanted a clean bill with more than $600 since the beginning.

So then what sense did it make for the republicans to only give offer $600.  There should have been communication between those involved.

A mix of both incompetence and collusion by our government. Trump DID try to bypass the bullshit and pushed for direct payments to American citizens months ago, without billions to foreign countries. Not something CNN would push, however. Especially not before the election.

All politicians are terrible. Republicans all of a sudden are fiscally conservative (even though they spent like hell in 2017-2018) and Democrats had no political incentive to pass a stimulus bill. Trump probably would’ve won again if he was able to dish out another round of $1200 checks with his name on them.

They are definitely not fiscally conservative, but I think the sheer size and waste of the bill is starting to get out of hand. $2,000 for existing while endless business owners are struggling and will continue to struggle under this garbage relief bill is simply unconscionable. Every single dollar of money sent out to people who don't need it has to be repaid by future generations.

Anyone who seriously believes that this is on Trump or the GOP is blind as a bat, to the point where it must be intentional. No sane American supports this bill giving out free billions to countries across the world while tens of millions in America are struggling. As others have pointed out, Trump pushed for payments of 1200+ MONTHS AGO, and the Democrats refused because they weren't able to give out money like candy. Just to be clear, this isn't money that our government has. We're printing money/borrowing from other countries just to give it away to other countries. I mean, this is an economic forum, do you people have no problem with the federal government printing out money and handing it out like candy, to fucking Pakistan and Sudan of all places? Gender diversity in Pakistan? GREAT! Now they can call women by their proper pronouns before "honor killing" them with stones. How the fuck do people see this as a partisan issue? This more than ever highlights the fucking uniparty of our government, they (excluding trump and Rand Paul and Cruz) are all in on the gig together in order to benefit themselves and rob Americans blind. Fuck Americans when we can give a BILLION dollars to our friends at the Smithsonian right? Thank god this bill allows illegals to get $1800 per person (seems fair, right? Just reward them for hopping the fence, but I digress), just keep buying their future/current votes.

The conservationist in me supports Rand Paul and says that all payments are inherently bullshit. The best economic stimulus that the federal government can provide is to provide democratic states with no financial support for their draconian lockdowns. Giving out more money will just lead to continued lockdowns and struggling Americans. The virus didn't crash the economy, liberal politicians did (almost always bypassing state legislature in their rule by decree). But if the consensus is that stimulus is needed, you cannot morally or intelligently attempt to blame trump or the GOP. No shit they didn't pass the $2,000 checks because all the Dems did is add it on top of the hundreds of billions of wasteful spending. It's not like they even had time to read the 5 THOUSAND page bill passed in the 11th hour, which even AOC says is bullshit.

The liberal media recognizes that actually telling the public that Trump and the GOP are willing to give money out to them would swift public opinion, so their only option is to bury Trump's attempts MONTHS ago in getting money out, and blaming the GOP for not passing a new bill with the same corrupt spending.

Don't have time to write something too coherent, so forgive me. Please refer to below before responding to me though. Thx. Also, please don't disregard this as simply a post from a Trump supporter. I do clearly support him, but he is (again) on the right side of this.

What was in the bill, that Trump wanted to go to Americans instead, and what the GOP refused to sign onto along with the $2,000:

On a side note, let's not pretend that $600 actually means anything to anyone. Maybe 1/2 of a month of rent for someone in Idaho without a family? While also de-valuing the current money that everyone is holding onto? LET PEOPLE GO TO WORK.

Last note: Nobody gives a fuck if this all isn't "technically the same bill". The government is printing money to give to fucks in the middle east while Americans starve.

$2.5 million to count fish in the Gulf of Mexico

$ 3 million to research the impact of down trees

$ 3 million in poultry production technology

$1,300 million to Egypt

$700 million to Sudan

$453 million to Ukraine

$500 million to Israel

$130 million to Nepal

$135 million to Burma

$85.5 million to Cambodia

$25 million to Pakistan

$1,400 million to Asia R.I.A

$26.4 million to Kennedy Center

$1,000 million Smithsonian

$154 million Natnl Art Gallery

$167 million Natl Art & Humanities

$14 million to W. Wilson Center

You can't even visit most of these places, and again, Americans are starving, but got to pay off our government friends right?

Also, only about 1/2 of the US population will even get $600. (If you didn't read above, illegals get $1800).

Even if you disagree with ALL of this, realize that no blue-collar family even wants a pitiful $600. They want their restaurant to be opened back up. They want to be able to go to work in their stadium. Why should $600 go to someone who hasn't lost their job because of lockdowns and hasn't been at all negatively impacted? Seriously, why not just give out $10,000 to every American? Why not?

Alright, last note. Didn't realize OP was actually financeabc. I'm tempted to give him a banana, kid spends every waking hour on this forum giving us comical material.

Dude, you live in the world of make believe if you think that this is not Trump's fault.  The buck stops with the POTUS.  That is the way it works in the United States of America.  If the POTUS wanted a different outcome, he should have been more involved in the process.  Putting out a tweet that you want $1,200 several months does not exactly represent hard work.  He does play golf a lot, though.  Since he has been POTUS, has has racked up 150 million dollars in golf trips on the tax payers dime.

After he complained about the bill via tweet, he literally flew off to Mar Lago to play golf.  May be he is too busy to get involved with policy decisions.  It is hard to find the time, when your day are filled with playing golf, promoting conspiracy theories, giving pardons to convicted felons/murders and defunding the military.  It is fucking bizarre for a POTUS to say I do not take responsibility.

I don't understand why we're just sending money to anyone. My co-worker was celebrating to me his $600 check potential. My co-worker is gainfully employed. The $600 check to anyone making under $75 or $100k (I don't know what it is) is just ridiculous. It's a complete waste of money. My barber is the one who needs help with paying her retail lease, not a person who is happily teleworking.

Alternatively, the best stimulus is for the government to take its boot off the neck of the economy.

And yes, Trump is a g-d idiot. I am so f*cking sick of him right now. I voted for him twice, but his behavior post-election has been so bad that it makes me see red.

I’ll put our caustic back and forth aside for a minute and ask this in earnest. I know you follow politics as closely as I do. You seem surprised by his behavior this last month, whereas I never saw this playing out any other way. How could we have such different views of the man? I’m generally curious because I know you’re a smart guy and the same age as me.

"I don't know how to explain to you that you should care about other people."
