Ivey or Seton Hall

I want to go into IB in New York, and I currently live in Canada. I applied to too many reach schools, so Western Ivey and Seton Hall are the two options I am looking at for my undergrad. Because I have horrible high school marks, I am going to try to transfer to a target school after my freshman year. Would the better networking opportunities at Seton Hall be better, or the better rank at Western Ivey.

Depends what you want. I currently go to a school like Seton Hall but if you can get into western Ivy and plan on transferring, I would think that it would provide a much better name for transferring into a target school. Seton Hall has a as small alumni base in high finance but they love to help each other out. That being said you may lose some people (but gain plenty) should you transfer to a target.

When you say Western Ivy are you referring to West Coast (California) schools? I'm from the region where Seton Hall is (Northeast), and have a few friends there, it's definitely a non-target and furthermore it's not close enough to NYC to be able to intern during the fall / spring.

Seton Hall will do absolutely nothing for you. I'm American but I'm assuming you're talking about the Ivey School of Business at UWO. I was under the impression that that was a good school and a target for IBD which is why I'm confused that you're comparing it to Seton Hall. If IBD is your goal, and those are your two options, it's not even a question; go to Ivey. I've definitely come across a decent amount of profiles on LinkedIn of Ivey alums working in IB/PE in New York although I'm sure Toronto has a much larger representation for obvious reasons.

Yes, I am talking about UWO, and U of Toronto is an option, but I don't have a decision yet. From the seton hall site, It says their are many internship opportunities to New York for GS, JPM, among others, and their leadership program is number one. Is there that many opportunities at the school?

That's just marketing BS from Seton Hall. It accepts 80% of applicants and is generally not a reputable school. Having the "#1 Leadership Program" (says who?) means absolutely nothing. Any internship opportunities it refers to are likely back office positions. The school will not be on any bank's radar for front-office IBD spots. You seem pretty naive, which is to be expected, but let me be clear: go to Ivey and get involved with the investment banking club there. Ivey has a huge alumni network in investment banking and is a target school for many banks as far as I know. You're comparing a low-tier school that will add no value, if IB is your goal, to the best business school in Canada. This should be an easy decision.

I actually currently go to Seton Hall and am debating transferring to a target / semi target school as well. As someone mentioned we do have a small alumni base. Some are in S&T, and ER as well as corp finance roles. If you have the opportunity to go to an ivey do it would make your life much easier.

I know nothing about Seton Hall, but if you want to work in NY, Ivey is the best Canadian business school to get you there. Make sure you do well your first 2 years, as if you're still in high school you only have Ivey AEO, which does not 100% guarantee your entry. Other schools to think of in Canada for the US are McGill HIM and UBC PMF
