Ivy League Candidate question
Greetings Everyone,
In college I was a liberal arts major with Communications and a minor in Business. I did some extensive work for a politician as an intern. I thought I'd end up as an attorney and I am no longer interested in law.
I was accepted to several Ivy League schools for an MA; focus would be cultural policy and economics. Yet another liberal arts degree. I did have intentions on getting an MBA from HBS, Stanford, or Wharton. After, I secure a job as an analyst on Wall Street for a two years or so.
Ideally, I'd like to work for a Hedge Fund or IB.
What are your honest thoughts about this track any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
What track is this exactly? Getting the MA then getting the MBA?
Do you have any full-time work experience? You need at least 3 years to apply to the MBA programs you listed and grad school does not count. I don't see the point of the MA if you want to work in finance. Why not try for an analyst gig now?
I didn't do great in Undergrad. At least not great enough to get into an Ivy League or Top Tier MBA. I am attempting to get an analyst position and I have 2.5 years experience of work plus 3 heavy weight internships from my undergrad under my belt.
Lib Arts major here, English degree who thought he wanted to be a lawyer...so I hear where your coming from with this..i'd have to see what experience you have that is relative to IB to comment whether or not you have a shot....off what you supplied, networking is key...not what you know but who you get to know that matters
I've interned for Obama for America, NBC Universal and Accenture. Not necessarily focusing on banking but my experience fostered a great understanding of new media, globalization, and marketing. Also, my corporate gig was focusing on sales and health care implementations of EMR because of Obama's health care reform lol funny how it all came full circle.
