Job Choice
I am currently working for a small oil and gas company and was offered a managerial position which would include making investment and acquisition decisions along with managing the accounting side of the company. Considering how young I am, this would look great on a resume. The pay is great and the stress would be relatively low. The only issue is it's located in Houston, TX and I am not really intrigued by the business model.
I also have another job offer with a more interesting firm that is just opening its satellite office in the U.S.A. I studied abroad in Italy and made a valuable contact with whom is starting this business. It will be within the Aerospace industry and my role would include the acquisition of smaller research facilities along with managerial duties that go with that role. The only issue is the start date for this position. I was supposed to start at the end of May, but due to legal issues with the company opening in the U.S.A., this has been pushed back further. This is the second time this has happened.
My dilemma: Pay is equivalent for both positions, but the position for my first company will close if I don't seize it. By taking this role, I would be there for some years and it is a safe position. The other company that is opening in the U.S.A. is more risky since I don't know when the legal issues will stop and when the position can be started. Is it worth it to wait for this role or take the safer route with the position with my first company?
