Job search- Investment Management

I'm a Senior at a "non-target" school with one semester to go. I've been interning with a small wealth management firm since May but am seeking to get into a different role post-graduation. I'm interested in investment-management as a whole. I don't want to do financial advising/wealth management because it isn't hands-on enough(when I say this, I mean not a whole lot of analysis is being done, just plugging in info to software that generates a potential portfolio).

I'm here on this site because of all fo the useful sources and users. I'm wondering if anyone has any info on where I should look to apply? As i said, I'm interested in investments as a whole and I'm open to doing various things but I would most likely like to analyze debt or equity securities(I'm not picky on what kind of firm I'd be working for either). My second choice would to go into some corporate finance role, nothing specific off the top of my head. Given that I'm not from a top-tier school I've been considering CFA Level I to help myself stick out (thoughts on this?) I'm aiming to look at places in locations that include: NYC, NY state, MA, CT, and NC.

I'm an ambitious person that's passionate about finance as a whole and won't stop until the job is done and done right. I'm always striving to learn more to futher my education/knowledge not only in the finance field but others as well.

Thanks for the info is advance!

I think that there are three options that would suit you, listed in order of which would be the most interesting to you:

  1. Research Analyst
  2. Trader
  3. Portfolio Manager

There is a lot of analysis involved in each of these roles. Check them out and see if you might like and one of them.
